One way to generate finance for your internet start up business is to apply for a start up / new business Government funded grant. A Government grant is usually awarded to new businesses that meet certain criteria related to business industry, business location and business technology focus. Depending on the type of grant being sought depends on where to apply for your specific funding needs such as the Government, Regional Development Agencies, European Union, local councils and charitable organisations.

The Grant For Business investment (GBI)
The grant for business investment deals with the purchase of business assets such as buildings, equipment and machinery with a view to create new jobs or protect existing ones. Manufacturing businesses are eligible and businesses that provide a service (as long that service has a national market as opposed to local based). The European Union has applied some restrictions to businesses that fall within the following industries; synthetic fibres, shipbuilding, steel, coal, fisheries and some agricultural areas.

Government Grants For Innovation, Research and Development
To encourage more innovation, research and development the Government offers a range of grants  for businesses that are focused on utilising or developing new technologies, providing innovative products or processes within the following industries: health, food, agriculture, fisheries and biotechnology, information and communication technologies, nanosciences, nanotechnologies, materials and new production technologies, energy, environment (including climate change), transport (including aeronautics), socio-economic sciences and the humanities, space and security.

Local Authority Start Up Business Grants
Local authorities can provide grants and support to start up and new businesses, the Government incentive Local Authority Business Growth Incentives (LABGI)  is aimed at creating an incentive for local authorities to take an active role in encouraging local business growth in their areas. The Government has allocated a set amount of money to each local authority  which is to be used to support local businesses.
